The word for today is cadence.
Fall of the voice in speaking.
Inflection or moderation in tone.
Any rhythmic flow of sound.
Measured movement, as in dancing, marching, or the beat of such movement.
A series of notes or chords at the end of a phrase, section, or composition which indicates a partial or complete conclusion.
In the armed services, military cadence refers to “call and response” songs sung by the soldiers while marching, walking, running, etc. One of the most common of these “chants” is the Duckworth Chant, also commonly referred to as Sound Off. There are many variations and different types of military cadence calls.
Sound-off; 1 – 2; Sound-off; 3 – 4; Cadence count; 1 – 2 – 3 – 4; 1 – 2 …. 3 – 4.
